The 3M Museum

Two Harbors is also the home to the birthplace of 3M which just so happens to be the company which employs Rocketman. The building is now a museum and is open to the public. The articles of incorporation were signed in this building in 1902. It served as the headquarters until the company moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1916.

The museum is owned and operated by the Lake County Historical Society. The day we visited it was really hot and their air conditioning was broken. I really thought 3M could have paid for the repairs or replacement but it is up to the owners.

Rocketman called this a "jumbo." It's a roll of sandpaper.

I'm not sure who this guy is sitting on the bench. It's a very small museum but I was really glad to go and see where it all began. When Rocketman started at 3M in 1981, the company was called Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing. All the oldtimers still call it "The Mining."
